Homeseeker Park & Leisure Homes (HP&LH), the leading park home and leisure lodge supplier and part of the Shepherd Group, has announced the appointment of Peter Berwick to the position of managing director. Peter assumed the role on 1 December after a spell at the Rushden-based company as acting general manager. He was previously the national sales manager at HP&LH with responsibility for the overall sales operation including the team of four area sales managers.
The promotion is a strong indication of the company's commitment to its customer-focused strategy and comes at a time when HP&LH are developing and launching a completely new product range that is more closely aligned with customer demands.
With over 20 years in the park and leisure homes business, Peter joined HP&LH in 2004 and gained valuable experience in his customer-facing sales role. He says that over 70% of his time was spent ‘on the road' talking to customers and understanding their requirements. This, he claims, has given him a solid foundation of experience for his new role as managing director with the avowed intention of continuing to engage with customers.
Alistair Hare, chief executive officer for HP&LH sister company, Shepherd Homes, explains: "At a time when we are faced with challenging and increasingly demanding market conditions, we recognise the importance of being close to our customers. Peter represents the very best of this philosophy and has the customer, sales and company experience to drive Homeseeker to future success."
As managing director, Peter is already talking about establishing initiatives designed to strengthen the company's ability to meet customer demands. The first of these is his intention to create a customer charter that sets in stone the company's commitment to serving the customer better and exceeding customer expectations.
"The idea of a customer charter has been established in practice with a de facto commitment to customer satisfaction throughout the customer relationship and beyond. I intend to formalise our approach by defining it in terms that give the customer a reassurance of excellent service, the best quality products and outstanding support."
Peter's six years as sales manager at HP&LH meant acting as a close liaison between customer requirements and the design and manufacturing team at Rushden. This, too, has given him a deep understanding of design capabilities and production processes and how they translate into a product customers want and desire. As managing director, Peter intends to establish regular workshops that will foster employee ingenuity and creativity by creating a forum for new ideas that deliver genuine customer benefits.
"Our customer-focused strategy is our strength and has been delivering real results since we rebranded as a park homes and leisure lodges company earlier in the year and moved Homeseeker into the leisure market." Peter concludes. "Holiday homes are our biggest market at the moment and, unusually for this time of year, our order books for our growing range of new leisure lodges is booming. So much so, our biggest problem at this time is working hard to meet our production and delivery commitments for the next season."
